Madikeri Fort
Madikeri Fort was one of the forts that Tipu Sultan rebuilt during his rule in the second part of the 18th century.Mudduraja erected Madikeri Fort in the second part of the 17th century, along with the fort and the palace within it. Dodda Vira seized power in Rajendra Kota in 1790. The fort’s most prominent structures are two stone elephant statues at the northeast gate and a church at the southeast corner.
At present, the Deputy Commissioner’s office is run by the palace building in Madikeri Fort. St. A museum operated by the Karnataka State Archeology Department is housed at Mark’s Church. The East India Company soldiers built this church in 1859 with funds from the Madras Presidency. The museum has exhibits showcasing artefacts and weapons dating back to the period of British rule. The palace inside the fort is very spacious and big. Its length is about 110 feet.
